Threads - Patches & Cardinals >>>

A few days ago when I was feeling particularly down and missing my mama, I got the urge to embroider.  I picked up this sweet cardinal embroidery piece at a thrift store the other day.  It was on an unfinished piece of linen, and the moment I saw the two sweet birdies I just knew I had to have them and do something with them.  Cardinals instantly remind me of my mom, every time I see one.  Since its summertime and Ive been living in my cutoffs, I figured the perfect project would be to upcycle some old cutoffs.  As I was putting on the random patches and stitches, I remembered Kinsey's lace pocket diy from a few weeks ago, and wanted to do something similar to the pockets of these shorts.  I picked a pretty 70's inspired floral fabric and did random colored contrast stitching around them.  I used to make things like this all the time, and I realized its been forever since I sat down and created a little something just for my own wardrobe.  I spent hours sitting on my back porch, with the windows open so I could listen to Ray LaMontagne blare from indoors.  There was a bittersweetness in the air while I thought of my parents and quietly sewed away at my patches.  It was definitely soothing and healing for my soul.

Threads - Pretty Layers >>>

These pretty layers below are what I wore to Isabel's ballet recital. I loved all of the colors together so much.  All I could think about was that my mom would of loved this outfit.  In a way, I kind of felt like her in it.  This little chiffon sparrow top has been one of my alltime favorite pieces in my closet.  The burgundy piece below is a one piece jumper, and I must admit, I cant stand the way I look in it by itself.  But its soooo cozy and I adore it, wishing I loved it on me as much as I did on the model online...  so I am finding ways to wear it with layers.  This handmade hemp vest from O Bella Organics was the perfect solution.  It covered up all the right spots, and actually made the the look that much cuter.  I just used one of my vintage belts to hold it in place.  Oh, and the ring below is probably my favorite ring ever.  Looks like little birdie tracks.

Threads - Blackbird Tees >>>

This morning I wrote a thank you post over on The Bohemian Collective to all of you who visited the new site!  I am just so so pleased with it all.  Each little nook and cranny of it is beyond what I thought it would be.  I dont think Ill ever get over being thankful to everyone who participated!  And thank you so much to those of you who have donated to TWLOHA through our page!  Means so so so much to me!

Do you ever feel after creating something huge, after all the initial excitement slows down, you just feel sluggish?  That is how I felt yesterday.  I was having terrible internet issues and couldn't complete the simplest tasks.  I finally dropped everything and laid in the bathtub for about 1 1/2 hours (or more).  That is the one place I can go to force myself to not do anything.  Im feeling better today, and Im not having internet troubles, yay!

James got me this uber cool sweatshirt for mothers day from Blackbird tees on etsy.  He told me I could buy myself something from Forever 21 (since he knows I can go crazy there)... but I quickly asked him if I could buy something handmade from etsy instead.  Ive been eyeing this sweater for a long time, and I think I could quite possibly live in it.  Most of the jewelry you see me sporting is brand new stuff I made for Roots and Feathers just this morning!  Ill be listing it all in the shop very soon...

Threads - Paisley Kaftan Dress >>>

The other day we decided to go the back way home from town to see if a little local thrift shop was open that weve never been to.  I was thrilled when the sign said open, since almost everytime we drive by its closed.  It was packed full of odds and ends, and millions of your typical thrift store trinkets.  I was soooo excited when I found this top.  James immediately called it a mumu, like he calls alot of things...  really its a womens plus size top that is way too big for me, but you can hardly tell when its belted.  Ive been wearing it around the house like a robe almost everyday since.  Its kind of fun to wear something around like pjs, then throw on some jewelry and shoes and instantly make it a nice comfy outfit!  I found another one that is cream and gold, and really really big, but i love it soooo much!  It was a fun thrift store score day!  It has been so long since Ive been thrifting, it thrilled my soul for the hunt.  And Im so so so in love with Blowfish's Genny wedges.  Are these not amazing?  I cant wait to show you how I styled them in my upcoming project!!!

Im still working away at this project.  Im devoting this entire day to try to wrap up as much as I can.  Ill just tell you, it includes a lookbook that has twice the amount of photos than any of my other ones do!  Eeeek!  See you on the flip side!

PEACE,
Laura
