The other night, I opened the door as the sun was going down, there was a beautiful slight chill in the air and it just felt like a moment I wanted to embrace in nature.  So I told James I wanted to go walk down by the river.  So we went.  The sun was down within 30 minutes, so it was a quick one, but it was a magic time.  As the sun goes over the horizon you can hear the bugs chorus get louder and louder, things start to feel slightly exhilarating because you can't quite see everything in all of the tall bushes.  It was a refreshing 30 minutes spent taking in the beauty and feel of the oncoming night.  Mmmmmmmmmmm....

I almost forgot to share these babies on the blog!  I made these a few weeks ago, and I'm just so in love with them.  There are only two left in the shop!  Time to make some more.  Most of them are inspired by the sea and the mermaid, and you can definitely tell.  That theme has still not left my mind.  I love creating new spins on old designs.  Like giving new life to something that has come and gone.  That is how I feel about the gypsy fringe wall hangings.  One of the first things I actually created for Roots and Feathers was the inspiration behind them.

After several days of feeling very down, achy, and no luster for much in general, I'm glad to say my spark came back a bit the night before last.  I actually made some sketches for some new stuff, along with sketches of things I want to bring back that have been forgotten about in my shop.  It's not all that often I actually break out the sketchbook.  I should more often b/c its really inspiring when I do.  And it's pretty cool to see a pencil drawing of something come to life!

Today, you will find me in the studio.  Have a good one!

nature letters.jpg

I just had to share this beautiful rendition of my Nature Letters DIY that Katelyn from Gypsy Moth Sol did.  I think it is absolutely beautiful, and she chose the perfect word for this project!  I sent her some Texas nature to use, and she mixed in some other beautiful things she already had in her own nature collection.  I'm just wild about it!

While I'm talking about Katelyn, can I just dote on her for a minute?  Have you seen her blog?  She has such a beautiful soul on such a deep journey in life right now.  AND she makes amazing things!  I'm absolutely obsessed with her crystal infused lotion and her bath salts.  I highly recommend anything from her shop!   I'm excited to be going to see her for two days at the end of this month.  It will be my first time seeing her new house and I just can't wait!

NATURE FLOWER CROWN DIY

Today's DIY is inspired by my last one, the Nature Letters DIY.  Since doing those letters, Ive been a bit obsessed with making things like this.  This little nature crown is more for play then for actually wearing out and about, mainly b/c its quite stiff from being made from sticks.  I think it would be super fun project with your littles.  They would feel like woodland fairies wearing these!   I'm pretty sure if I had my wedding to do over I'd have my bridesmaids wear some of these...

S U P P L I E S:

floral wire, small branches, found nature trinkets, deerskin or twine, scissors, hot glue gun.

I ended up using alot more than photographed below.  My nature trinkets included: feathers from my lovebird, dried roses + babies breath, mountain laurel seeds, dove feathers, bird bone, seashell & a leaf.

S T E P S:

1. measure the wire around your head and glue or tape the wire in place in a circle.  this will act as your guide for making the crown.

2. place your branches around the wire until you find the right fit.  i made two layers of branches all around to give it some sturdiness + more surface space to glue the objects onto.

3. glue the corners of the branches together in place.  i also glued them to the wire.

4. take your deerskin or other twine and wrap it around the entire circle.  glue on the inside as you go around, to keep it in place but also hide the glue as best as you can.

5. begin to lay your pieces of nature out on the crown to envision how you want them to look.  once you are happy, begin to glue each piece down.   continue until you are happy with how it looks.
