OBSESSION CONFESSION

the civil wars.JPG

Confession: I have been listing to the civil wars new album on repeat all day, every day since it arrived.  yes, I am afraid I am going to burn it out, b/c well, I have definitely done that in the past with albums.  But I just cant help it.  Just like with their last album, I feel so emotionally connected to it, like I could of written the songs from my own heart.  This time, even more so.  The connection that comes through in their vocals is profound, and not too often heard.  And knowing the reality of their not-speaking terms after the production of the album makes it all very real.  There have been a few times in my life where I have found myself on not-speaking terms with people I deeply cared about.  Left for years with unspoken feelings and what ifs of once real friendships.  It is heart breaking.  And that feeling never really goes away, no matter how much you convince yourself you might just be better off without them in your life.  Once you let a friend in your heart in an open, and honest way, it is hard to watch that crumble into dust.

Of course, these are universal feelings I think we all experience in one way or another.  So having an album like this that expresses it so intimately I think is actually so healing for so many people in this world.  One reason I love music so much, it moves you.  It gets inside every thread of your body, mind and heart like no other artform does.  At least for me.

And yes, I already have the entire album memorized, except for the french song.  I remember the very first album I did that with (of course besides The Little Mermaid and NKOTB) when I was really coming into my years of feeling connected emotionally to music, was Blind Melon's debut album.  I remember laying on the floor at my parents house with my walkman (remember those?) listening to it over and over.  A year or so later (don't remember the timeline) I did the same thing with Counting Crows debut album.  I remember sitting on the bathroom sink in my parents shop singing my heart out while reading every word.  (I remember feeling self conscious so I would hide away out in the shop for hours and sing).  So here I am, almost 20 years later, still doing it with certain albums.  I find myself wanting to do nothing but stand somewhere in my house and sing every word to this album at the top of my lungs.  This is what music is suppose to do.  Mmmmmm...

This is what I wore on my hot date with my bestie on friday night.  It had been almost a year since we had gone out for drinks on the town since she was pregnant, so we were both beaming with delight to spend this time together.  A friend even asked me if I was pregnant that night b/c I was glowing.  Ha ha.  I was just very happy.

I wore these leggings 4 days in a row, literally.  These are day four (without washing).  Yes, I am that girl that will wear her clothes several times before washing, unless of course I get them dirty or sweat in them.  I also didn't feel like showering this day and my hair was not cooperating, so I wore pigtails.  First time in ages.  It was kind of fun now that my hair is so long!

I love wearing this thunderbird necklace up high layered with other long necklaces, its quite versatile!  The braided leather necklace I made for myself and I love how it turned out.  It's my own spin on the ever popular style of braided wrapped stones.  You see them everywhere, so I wanted to create something a bit different but with a similar vibe.  I love how it looks like a bolo.  (I love bolos). I got some really great stones Ill be using to make a few of these for the shop.

And are still my favorite blowfish shoes boots.  Love.  Have you seen their new fall styles??? Amazing!!!!

NATURE LETTERS DIY

nature letters diy on roots and feathers.jpg

I am SO EXCITED to share this DIY with you today.  I have had this in my head for so many months now and I finally took the time yesterday to make it come to life.  It turned out even more beautiful than I originally imagined.  I think this would be a great idea for a child's room to display their name... the possibilities are really endless.  I was going to attach it to a wood board and hang it on the wall, but I decided to keep the letters loose so I can move it around the house as I please.

S U P P L I E S:

sticks & small branches // pieces of nature, ie: feathers, leaves, shells, bone, seeds, dried flowers // twine, ie: hemp, wire, leather // hot glue // scissors

I made an adventure out of it by taking Violet with me on a nature walk to collect our goodies.

S T E P S:

1 // lay all your branches out in the shape you want them.  i had to break a few longer branches to get the right size.  i also wanted my letters to have enough surface space to glue all my goodies on it, so I doubled up my branches.  this made it sturdier too, so it was a win win.

2 // glue all of your branches together with hot glue.  i used hot glue for this kind of project b/c it dries super fast, otherwise this project would of taken a week.  don't worry about being messy with the glue.  your nature pretties will cover most of it up.

3 // secure the corners and ends of the sticks together with your twine.  it not only keeps it together for the long run but also adds to the look when you use things like thick hemp or deerskin.

4 // begin to layout your nature trinkets on your letters to get a feel for how you want it to look.  i did this with the first letter and then i just went to town and started gluing away with no rhyme or reason.

5 // find a pretty place in your home to display your new nature art!

Below are a few close ups so you can really see the kinds of items that were used and how they were placed.

Now it's time to display your letter art!  I made a cozy little reading nook centered around mine.  This area needed some refreshing, so it was perfect!  Enjoy!

If you make something from this DIY I would LOVE to see it, send me a link!
