SEVEN YEARS

James and Laura

On the Autumn Equinox, James and I celebrated 7 years of marriage together.  This photo above is actually from the day after when we went to have dinner with our families together.  It's kind of funny b/c James JUST got his own Dylan tee!  It only took about 6 months, ha ha!

The day started out a bit rough.  By the time I was ready to go and took this photo above I was a bit ready to go back to bed and start the day over.  When we woke up my computer was on the verge of crashing b/c it is too full.  I have tons of photos on my computer, as well as the magazine Ive been working so hard on, that we did not want to lose, so we spent the first part of the day backing everything up on an external hard drive, and then again on Carbonite.  We also had tons of shirts that needed to go out for Skyline Fever.  We tried all month to get caught up to the point were we could take a good few days off for our anniversary, but life just kept happening and pulling us in other directions that were immediate necessities and we couldn't.  So by the time we were done with my computer and shirts, half the day was gone and we were both frazzled.  On top of that I was having one of those moments where nothing I put on felt good, so I changed about 10 times, which rarely happens anymore..

Red Door

We had planned to spend the whole day in Wimberely, cruising around neighborhoods, scoping out homes for sale, visiting the locals shops and going to the water hole and a restaurant.  We did cruise some neighborhoods first and that was fun.  There is some truly amazing properties and land out that way.  When we got into town many places were closed, so we searched for a restaurant that was open and found that Linda's was open, which is a place I had wanted to go to before on my vacation there b/c it's my mama's name!  The food was excellent and they had the prettiest red door on the front of the little old house.  It had hard wood floors and mixed matched old vintage wooden tables and chairs.  My mom would of loved it.  We were at an off time of day in between shifts so we were almost the only ones there which was nice.  I had their signature salad, broccoli salad, tomato basil soup and a deviled egg.  James had their smoked brisket quesadillas.  Yum!  After that we tried out their local coffee shop.  I honestly wasn't expecting much from the looks of it but it was surprisingly really good coffee!  Then we drove the back country way home and enjoyed the views over the Devil's Backbone hills outside of Wimberely.  So so beautiful.

Candlelight
Scrabble

Before bed we played Scrabble and James was so confident he was going to win... But I still hold the throne in our house for scrabble champion!  I kicked his ass!!!!!!  He even had Bella helping him!

James and Laura

Event though our anniversary was not all smiles and sunshine like we had hoped, we were able to laugh about it and go with the flow.  It's hard to let go of expectations sometimes, especially when its on a 'special' day, but it helped us so much to just let go and just be.

I feel lucky to have a guy who gets in there and gets things done even when it's not what he wants to be doing.  He spent the morning doing everything he could to save my computer.  Then that evening and all the next morning he spent hours researching and buying me a new computer tower.  He is always putting me first, and that's a good feeling.

outfit details:  top - novella royale // jeans c/o pylo // bag - bird trouble // belt - ruche // necklace - spirit tribe // ring - arrok jewelry

A few of my favorite things... high waisted bells, novella royale, feathers and friend's handmade work...

My sweet friend Alexz from Bird Trouble just launched her new fall line for 2014, called Lost In The Right Direction, inspired by her year long travels and living in Mexico.  The collection has 8 new bag styles in it and are all supporting sustainability and traditional Oaxaca, Mexico textile work.  It has been a true joy to watch her grow as an artist and come out with new designs.  I own a few of her bags and they are all made with impeccable quality and originality.  Of course, I love it when she incorporates fringe into her designs...

I'm in love with this Novella Royale top.  I found for a 6th of its original price somewhere (I can't remember which site now) and when it came in I thought I was going to have to return it b/c it was cropped higher than I thought it would be and I don't bare my tummy, just not something I'm comfortable with.  Luckily, these high waisted jeans from Pylo have been my saviour more than once in this regard!  I can now wear all my crop tops with them and not worry it!  Seriously my favorite jeans I own.  Hands down.

And how gorgeous is this handmade feather and turquoise ring from Arrok?  Her work blows my mind!  This was a sweet gift she sent me and I'm so so so in love with it.  Speaking of sweet gifts, my girl Takoda of Spirit Tribe also sent me this necklace as a gift.  I'm feeling pretty filled up with love from my friends right now!  How did I get so blessed?  My artist tribe is seriously amazing and full of love and generosity.  It fills me up so deeply.

Today's Pieces of Home I broke out my big guns camera.  Most of this series are from random shots Ive taken with my iphone throughout my days.  But I walked past my window the other day and the light shining through it was pure magic, I could not pass up taking a moment to capture it.  I watch this space throughout the day, and love how it changes feeling as the day goes on.  There are moments when the light shines harshly through and drowns out parts of what you see and cast other parts deep in the dark shadows.  The there are times when the sun is barely coming through the windows and the whole corner falls into a shadowy place.  Then the sun shifts and begins to peek through the other window and casts filtered sparkles all over everything.  My favorite is when the sun starts to peek through the curtains.  I love the way the light hits the fringe and the lace.  And since I put twinkle lights up in this window, my other favorite time is at night, when its all lit up by nothing but tons of little twinkles of light.  It is so magical.

James and I have been kicking around the idea of moving within the next couple of years, and this space in this house will be the most missed.  It has changed so many times over the past 3 years and has truly become my favorite spot.  I hope that whatever home we may find in the future, that it has a special window space where the lights hits it just right again.  I have been compiling a list of all the elements of my 'dream home', and this is definitely on that list.  It also includes a huge beautiful Magonlia tree.  A girl can dream, right?  I make no bones about getting specific with my dreams.  And I am pretty damn good dreamer.  I think I spend the majority of my time in my head dreaming actually.  It's a big part of my personality... la la land.

Oh, and this beautiful paper mache moon has transformed this window to a whole new level enchantment.  For those who will ask, I found it in a thrift store in Wimberley.  I might say its the best thrift find I have ever found.
