KANTHA LIVING ROOM FORT

rootsandfeathers.com

Yesterday we randomly decided to make a fort, something that has been way too long since I’ve done. James and I used to make forts all the time just for the hell of it. It’s actually been since Ava was a baby that we have made one. It was fun b/c now Ava is is big enough to help me. She kept having me add things, like the hat on top and the plant. Then afterwards she proceeded to decorate it with all her paw patrols. This morning she has already draped some crystals on it.

We found yet another way to use our Kantha Bae! We used a blanket, a vest, a turban, a baby ring sling and a crop top! The floor cushion is from My Bohemian House. We use this thing so much. I usually eat dinners sitting on it by the coffee table, and Cosmo sleeps on it most nights. We just got these two beautiful vintage rug pillows from Zarabi Collectif. Rumor has it there might be a fun giveaway over on my IG for a very special gem from their shop, so stay tuned! And of course we had to set up a diffuser with our favorite Seedlings CALM blend, perfect for these times. The beautiful butterfly blanket is from Calhoun and Co. I get asked about this blanket all the time! It’s so so beautiful. If I had more wall space in our home I would totally get another one just to hang on the wall I love it so much!

We just printed a fresh batch of our Wild Boheme tees, and since I did this photoshoot last week, it felt like the perfect time to share a Skyline Fever outfit post. Our slouchy tees are hands down my favorite in the whole shop. They are so very soft + cozy + easy to wear. I sleep in one almost every night, where them around the house as pj’s, and of course where them styled in various ways throughout my days. I love that you can wear them off the shoulder, but you don’t have to. You can tie them in a front, back or side knot, They are super cute with a Tan France french tuck like I have it styled here. They are slouchy enough to lay over your favorite thermal in the winter, and soft + light enough in the summer with your favorite cut offs. Need I go on?

I styled it here with some yummy distressed boyfriend jeans + strappy sandels I found on Thred Up. Have you shopped there yet? If not, you are missing out. It’s an online second hand shop where you can find tons of name brand items with majorly slashed prices. I’d say 80% of my wardrobe come from there that is not handmade. I have found almost all of my Free People there for next to nothing compared to their original prices. If you don’t mind the thrill of the hunt, it’s amazing! If you haven’t made a purchase from them yet, I have a link where you can get $10 off your first purchase! SHOP HERE

This beautiful hat was a recent find at World Market + I tied one of my favorite Kantha Bae headwraps on it to fancy it up a bit! She just restocked headwraps, so there are bunch of beautiful ones available right now!

Ever wonder how I take pics of myself with my dslr? I just use a tripod and hand held remote clicker. You can spy it one of these photos, ha ha! I usually just try to be creative with hiding one of my hands…

HO HO COOKIES

rootsandfeathers.com

So, you may be wondering why these are called Ho Ho cookies… These are the cookies we made + set out for Santa as per Ava’s request, so now every time we make these cookies she calls them Ho Ho cookies. She LOVES Christmas, and other holidays, especially Halloween, and for the most part, it’s all her own excitement! So we have gone along with her incredible sheer excitement for all the magic those days bring.

We make these almost weekly. As soon as we see 2-3 bananas getting overripe, we make them. They are so delicious and healthy enough that we call them breakfast often. Vegan, gluten free, sugar free + super easy to make!

Recipe:

2-3 ripe bananas

2 cups rolled quick oats

1/2 cup nut butter of choice

2 tbsp raw honey

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp salt (we prefer himalayan

1/2 cup chocolate chips (can substitute nuts, dried berries, etc)

optional:

1/2 tsp vitamineral earth powder

1/2 tsp maca powder

1/2 tsp amla powder

*this is where you can get creative with what you add for your own health benefits

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mash bananas + add nut butter + honey, mix. In larger separate bowl, add oats + all other ingredients except chocolate chips or alternatives. Mix banana mix into oat mix until all blended. Add chocolate chips + mix well. Line baking sheet with parchment paper. Add 1/4 cup size scoops onto the pan and slightly flatten with fingers (not too much so they stay nice + moist). Bake in over for 14 minutes. Enjoy!

They keep for about 3 days when kept enclosed so they don’t dry out.

I tried an experiment with just the cookie dough part to make cookie dough balls! They turned out pretty darn yummy! Instead of baking, take your cookie dough mix and roll into balls + roll them in cocao powder (hello superfood), then chill in fridge for a few hours. You could also roll these in a nut mix or anything else that sounds good to you!

Let me know if you make them! I’d love to know any variations you use as well!

SACRED MOMENTS

We took a drive through the hill country to find wildflowers. We didn’t find many on the route we chose, but we found these insanely beautiful trees along the way. Nature is so soothing to the senses.

Cosmo + Banjo have been living it up on the porch since the weather has been turning. We are all so happy to have spring starting to bud around us, especially during a time like we are in.

Feeling so lucky that the week before things go real bad, we got to spend the weekend with our Nanna, b/c it looks like it might be a while before we can again. Ava loves being there and always loves any time she gets to spend with her cousin. We are missing them already.

This is the first year I have ever participated in a 365 photography project. I never did b/c I didn’t think I could actually pull through every day. But this year I said fuck it, let’s do it anyway. It has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve done this year. It is keeping me active, making me take my camera everywhere with me, and I’m capturing so many more in the moment things.
